Can I friend/follow my teen on social media?

This is a discussion to have with your teenager. Some teenagers feel they want their space/privacy on social media, while others are happy to have their parents as friends. If your child is reluctant to have you as part of their online life, do not insist. If they do let you, do your best to give them some space, observing silently and not commenting on each and every one of their posts or photos. Another option is to have all their online usernames and passwords. This way, you are not watching them on a daily basis, but you have the ability to check and see what is going on if you notice that your child’s behavior has changed.
